2010 Youth Tour Contest

The Youth Tour contest is open to all high school juniors in United Electric Cooperative’s service area.

To compete in the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour contest, students must submit a 600-word, typed, creative essay on “Our Energy,  Our Future”.

Written essays will be judged and scored on knowledge of subject, originality, content, composition, grammar, spelling and neatness.  The top six final written scores will comprise the list of finalists.  Each finalist will then be invited to orally present their essay before another panel of judges.  Oral essays will be scored on speaking ability, knowledge of subject, content, originality and presentation of self.  Final oral essays will be judged on April 8, 2010 at United Electric Cooperative’s office in Maryville.  Each finalist’s combined written score will be added to each of the oral judges’ scores for a final contest score.

The essay that receives the highest score will be United Electric’s delegate and the winner of an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C.  The essay that receives the second highest score will be United Electric’s delegate and the winner of a trip to the Missouri Cooperative Youth Conference and Leadership Experience (C.Y.C.L.E.), a three-day leadership conference held in Jefferson City, MO.
